Are we justified?

MAGNIFIES - Iraq Abuse Scandal Front Page

This link will take you to a page on MAGNIFIES, that is called the "Iraq abuse scandal front page." Meaning that this has become so big now it warrants it own "section." The abuse of Abu Ghraib was only the tip of the ice burg.

Now we are finding out that the abuse is much further reaching, up to and including elite seal teams, and Rangers. The scary thing is that this is just what we know so far. With so much being done over there in secret, who knows what else has gone on and continues to go on.

If we have such little control over our commanders in the field, this is yet another reason we should not be in Iraq, or have elected this administration to another term. This scandal, as well as the next one that is sure to arise should serve as a reminder that we are not a victim in the war on terror, but a active participant.

  • Pardon me for asking what will seem like a dumb question to you. I am a Canadian and just and observer.

I was also deeply troubled by the Abu Grahib abuse.

My question is about the logic in taking this example and expanding it to determine the ethical validity of the Iraq war.

Here is an example: There are some police in Canada and the United states who are corrupt; no one would argue with that. Sometimes those corrupt police do things that are in keeping with the public trust, such as interveening in violence and protecting the innocent. But they are also involved in abusing protistutes, keeping confiscated drugs and alcohol for their own use etc; things that we agree are evil. Does that in turn make their good deeds wrong as well? I mean: just because there are bad cops, is law enforcement wrong?

Don't forget that Saddam Hussein was a murderer, millions of Kurds have benefited and been spared Saddam's murderous dictatorship.
